Susan M. Brazas has practiced law in the Rockford area since 1990.  Susan is a general practitioner licensed in Illinois and Wisconsin state and federal courts.  Areas of practice include:

  • Orders of Protection
  • Immigration Law
  • Guardianships
  • Wills and Probate
  • Adoptions
  • DCFS Hearings
  • Traffic Tickets
  • Election Law
  • Personal Injury
  • Contract Disputes

Susan is a respected leader within the local legal community and statewide.  As Chair of numerous Section Councils within the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA), Susan has fostered a valuable network of attorney contacts around the state.  Susan has an up-to-the-minute knowledge of higher court decisions, as she is the ISBA’s author of case summaries appearing in “ISBA E-Clips”, the daily electronic service for ISBA members across the country.

Susan is a zealous advocate for her clients.  In her career of more than 20 years, she has handled jury trials, bench trials—including one in Washington, D.C. for six of the hostages from the hijacking of TWA Flight 847.  Susan also handles DCFS hearings, employment law hearings, and licensing hearings.  Susan’s tenacity for her clients has been highlighted in local news media, including a local political candidate fighting for a place on the ballot, and a young mother battling—in the appellate court–to keep her child in a contested out-of-state adoption. Susan also fiercely argued for an area high school student in an expulsion hearing before the School Board. Susan won a lengthy and difficult battle for her client, a single father, to prevent his child from being moved out of Illinois by the child’s mother, who had married a military officer.
